Mr. White Productions & Slingshot Productions have erratically gathered a list of some of the rocking local bands, a handful of Hip Hop & House deejays and placed them under one roof to showcase Durban’s top talent in an event they call ‘Random’. The whole plan behind the event is to showcase three different genres of artists on the same bill with different stages while integrating the audiences. This concept has proven to be a great recipe for music events like “Coke Fest”, or locally “Flux Festival” in the past.
The initial event will feature a selection of live bands on stage at the Wavehouse at Gateway; a venue which is increasingly becoming popular as a music venue in Durban.
In the last year or so, Durban has seen some remarkable bands come in & out of the city, but 2008 seems to have seen the emergence of an array of some truly outstanding local bands.
Pocket Change, a fairly new band to the scene will be performing alongside some reasonably popular acts such as Indie DJ Miss Yew from the “I Love Durban Parties” & “Fire Through the Window”. Fire Through The Window, who have made an enormous buzz in the scene after the release of their debut album have had their debut single ‘Just Like You Are’ featured on the new Apple iPod Nano advert which is flighted nationally on over 60 DSTV channels & all over the internet; an amazing achievement for a band that’s only just made a name for itself.
Now, as if that was all the show has to offer; the House floor will see the likes of Cape Town’s Dean Fuel, Coco Loco (Just back from his UK Tour), Green Jnr & Live Digital Act Seake, keeping the crowds’ feet off the ground for most of the night. Seake, super masters in the creation of new journeys of electro music, are nothing less than brilliant on the decks. Most of the material they play at shows is engineered live while they are playing their set. These two rhythm junkies are one of the most dynamic deejay duos to come out of Durban, period.
Well, if House music does not make love to your ears and you would rather opt for something slightly more thumping, then the Hip Hop floor manned by P-Kuttah (formerly Paperkut), Nelson, Stretch and Erwin would be the choice for you. P-Kuttah has been creating a shocking wave around Durban for some years now with some accolades under his belt at the Battle Of The Year as well as some subversive DJ competitions. His ability to play for any crowd & still leave people’s heads bopping & feet tapping is incredible. He will be joined by a new crew of break-dancers & beat-boxers who are breaking their way into Durban’s Hip Hop scene, Durban’s own - Fixed DC
