COCO LOCO
Coco Loco began his DJ career at the age of 19, developing over the years an underground style, which has helped create quite a reputation for himself within the South African Dance industry. Since a young age he maintained a strong musical background, performing as a guitarist in hard rock bands before succumbing to the infectious sound of House music. As both promoter and DJ, Kevin has over the past eight years experienced the strengths and weaknesses of the Dance market firsthand and from this he has gained substantial knowledge and understanding of South African House music scene. Thus giving him the ability to perform various forms of dance music, from Deep melodic House to a more upbeat Dirty House.

Having a passion for music all his life, Kevin has been inspired by both Rock and Dance music and accredits his influences to American DJs such as Danny Tenaglia, Sasha and Deep Dish, as well as guitar legend Jimi Hendrix and bands like Pearl Jam, System of a Down and Korn.

Within the last two years Coco Loco’s DJ career has excelled considerably, taking him from Durban to all over of South Africa and now he even regularly fly’s over to Mauritius to DJ in the island’s two top night-clubs. This successful progression has gained him much media coverage, not only within local newspaper and magazine publications (SL, Top Billing, Heat and BPM), but also on National TV (E-TV) and many interviews and guest DJ sets on National Radio (5FM, Good Hope Radio and East Coast Radio).

As a promoter and DJ, he’s also had the opportunity to source and DJ alongside some of the biggest international names, such as Deep House legends Erhan Sengenc (Turkey), DJ Rasoul and Kaskade (San Fransisco), The Lawnchair generals (Seattle) and mainstream DJ’s such as Funkstar Deluxe (Denmark), DJ Sammy (Spain), Tim Deluxe (U.K) and most recently Brandon Block (U.K). He was asked to play the closing set at the Nelson Mandela Aids Concert at the ICC in Johannesburg August 2004 where Dani Minogue, Human Leauge and the Boogie Pimps also performed.

In December of 2004 he launched his long awaited and largely anticipated debut DJ Mix CD called the “Deeper Sound of Coco Loco – Deep Trouble” and followed up the release with a three-month/ten city South African tour. Kevin has managed to compile a CD by combining two of his favourite styles, firstly starting off with a deep, soulful and melodic sound and then moving onto a more dirtier, chunkier side which he is mostly well known for.
October 2005 will see the release of the follow up compilation Titled “Deeper Sound of Coco Loco – Fly by Night”

KEVIN’S BUSINESS PROJECTS
Back in 1997 Kevin (Coco Loco) was living and DJ-ing in Richards Bay. He noticed a gap for Dance music within this small town, which only had a handful of drinking bars and hotel pubs offering any kind of social life for the young generation staying there. From this realisation High Society was born and he started (along with four other DJ friends) to introduce the locals to the global sound of dance music.

High Society was made up of four DJ friends with Kevin at the helm responsible for the marketing and sponsorship of the events. Their first parties began in very exotic venues such as a floating restaurant, an old fishing cabin and even at a crocodile farm. As time progressed the parties became well known and increasingly popular, with them then taking their events to other bigger venues such as large warehouses and three huge free trance parties on a deserted island beach.

His passion in the industry was forever growing, and after two and a half years he felt the need to pursue a career in a bigger, more influential city. So he re-focussed his attention to the next best option… Durban! Not the most receptive city for underground dance music, it wasn’t all as easy as he thought it would be. However with serious determination and refusal to give up, he slowly began to put together some of the biggest parties Durban has ever seen.

Kevin’s marketing concepts along with promoter friend “MR White productions” together have delivered successful brands such as “Durban Underground”, “Superstar DJ” and “Tim Deluxe 2004”. Also in his long list of events/concepts are few smaller projects aimed directly at the Deep House market which include “Diamond Knights”, “Boy & Girl Next Door” and “Yishi Fonk” to name a few.

One of Kevin’s greatest achievements was in September 2002 when High Society brought to Durban the sensational Funkstar Deluxe (Denmark). This amazing street party took place on the streets around the famous SKYYBAR nightclub and attracted a crowd of 3500 people, an event that has certainly made a mark in Durban’s clubbing history.
