AGENT K

Karl first started DJing in 1996 when he was just 16. The ever-growing Rave scene in S.A was becoming a force to
be reckoned with, with Hard house and Trance dominating the main arenas. Having gone to a couple of these Raves In Durban, Karl became increasingly interested in what was to change his life forever.

During his early varsity days, Karl spent a lot of time and money in the local vinyl stores and so began practicing and playing at friends house parties and anywhere he could find a pair of turntables. Karl slowly began building up a reputation playing at these house parties and handing out his own DJ mix tapes.

At the age 19 he was influenced by a completely different sound when he happened to pick up a Guidance Recordings track. Karl was totally hooked! Karl began his quest to move into more soulful and deeper sound,
dropping the speed of which he played his records vastly. Over the next three years Karl was to develop his style into what has been heavily influenced by the American West Coast producers such as Miguel Migs, Lance Desardi, Blue Six and JT Donaldson and now prefers the sounds of infamous labels such as Naked Music, Seasons Recordings, Toko Recordings and many more like them!

With his feet firmly sunk into the Deep house scene, Karl Began spinning at the trendy clothing store (3rd Base),
who catered for a stylish and affluent clientele. This helped him get an opening set at the very popular Night-club Tilt. Then moving around Durban to other popular Night spots such as Bar-go, B-Bar and Cape to Ciro. Whilst playing at B-Bar, Karl was introduced to a promoter who Was to help Karl step into the major DJ circuit.

From then on, he was to be heard DJing along side Durban’s top DJ’s such as; Mimi Kesaris, Coco Loco and Sam Boylan. With a few DJ sets on 5FM (Mark Gillman’s Vinyl Frontier) and gigs at Joe Kools, Café Vacca Matta and a Margate New Years eve party, he caught everyone’s eye with his deep infectious sound.

Invitations to play at mainstream parties (along with new DJ friend Mylo) where coming in fast, and what was to follow was a string of back room sets at legendary parties such as Roger Goode’s Saturday Surgery, Tim Deluxe and all six of the Durban Underground parties.

Karl's sound is mixing pot of deep house sounds, ranging from a vocal to a more instrumental sound, with massive base lines and more recently an old school electro 80s vibe. He enjoys the slow climb from those laid back vocals and beats, picking it up ever so slightly and building to a big finish within his often 6 hour DJ surprise.
